Summer is coming to an end, so you might be thinking of changing those floral top notes from your fragrance for warmer and woodier ones, in-keeping with autumn. These five fragrances all share stronger wood base notes – add their own concoction of spices and leather, and you have a scent that compliments to the most beautiful season of the year.
1. Euphoria – Calvin Klein
I’ll start with this fragrance as its ingredients hold the key to the perfect autumn/winter scent. Top notes of ginger and pepper had the needed warmth, and then the woody notes of Brazilian redwood, patchouli, and the leather tone of suede plus amber add its exotic quality. At the heart of the concoction, black basil, sage and cedar leaf round this warm fragrance off with middle herb notes – the perfect bold and masculine scent that’ll make you stand out.

2.1 Million – Paco Rabanne
Paco Rabanne have had great success with their Pour Homme aftershave – a distinct fragrance I’ve noticed a lot on men from all ages. Their 1 Million range has a fragrance for both sexes, but it’s the male version that sells more due to its effeminate quality, women preferring it to the female version. That’s not to say it’s a perfume for men; quite the opposite, in fact, as women have stated they think it makes a man smell very sexy. Top notes of blood orange, grapefruit, mint, cinnamon, rose and light leather are fused with white wood, patchouli and amber, creating a sexy warm fragrance – the perfect love potion!
3. 212 Men – Caroline Herrera
This fragrance is very popular among the younger crowd, although it’s very versatile and its warm base notes and spicy middle notes make this is a sophisticated fragrance suited to all. Those base notes come from a mix of labdanum, sandalwood, musk, guaiac wood, vetiver and incense. At the heart, ginger, green pepper, gardenia, violet and sage make up the middle notes. The fresher top notes finish this off with spices, petit grain, lavender, grapefruit and bergamot. Over all this is a relatively cheaper fragrance suited to anyone wanting that autumnal scent.
4. Amber Pour Homme Intense – Prada
Amber Pour Homme Intense is a new, more intensive version of their debut male fragrance. This classy fragrance combines strong woody scents with hot and spicy notes to create a very masculine, velvety aftershave. Patchouli and white vanilla give warmth, whilst bergamot and the spicy hot resin of myrrh intensifies its rich aroma.
5. Bvlgari Pour Homme – Bvlgari
This is a personal favourite due to its light musky quality and its longevity. Woody notes come from Brazilian rosewood, oakmoss, guaiac wood and cedar. The heart of this fragrance beats notes of cyclamen, coriander, carnation, iris, pepper and cardamom. In contrast to the woodland scents, top notes of aldehydes, lavender, mandarin orange, nutmeg flower, bergamot, black currant blossom and orange blossom and tea round this fragrance of as a highly sophisticated and masculine aftershave.
I hope you’ve taken some inspiration from this article and are now thinking about perhaps binning that one brand you swear by and experiment with the coming and going of the seasons.
My favourites of the five are Calvin Klein’s aftershave and Bvlgari’s Pour Homme – two great fragrances to start experimenting with. There is an infinite mix of cheap mens fragrances out there, so pay Mother Nature a compliment by changing your aftershave and blending in.
